About This Spot

Nestled on Grand Avenue in the heart of Paonia, Sweetgrass Paonia feels like a quiet embrace on a relaxed morning. From the moment you step in, the soft hum of conversation and the warmth of sunlit windows invite you to slow down and settle into an unhurried rhythm. Whether you're choosing a seat on the shaded deck surrounded by greenery or inside among cozy nooks, the pace here encourages savoring both the surroundings and your company.

This is the kind of restaurant where the food reflects an earnest love for simple, thoughtful ingredients and familiar flavors, reimagined with care. It isn’t just a meal, but a moment – the kind that stays with you long after the last bite. Breakfasts arrive gently – think of perfectly toasted English muffins cradling rich eggs Benedict, or a vibrant kale salad that tastes as vibrant as the garden just outside. Every dish feels made for lingering conversations and the kind of quiet satisfaction that comes from wholesome comfort.

Beyond the plate, Sweetgrass offers an atmosphere that’s part neighborhood gathering spot, part retreat. The friendly staff—patient, attentive, and genuine—create a feeling more like visiting a friend’s home than a typical café. This sense of ease spills out into the outdoor seating, where the garden-lined picnic tables become a place to let the afternoon stretch on, soaking in Paonia’s slow, rural pace.

For those who come seeking a break from routine, Sweetgrass acts as a gentle reminder of the joy in everyday moments—warm drinks and hearty meals shared beneath the open sky or cozy inside, always with a touch of thoughtful hospitality. It’s not a hurried stop, but a place to rest, recharge, and quietly celebrate the simple good things.

Stopped here for breakfast on a Sunday and food and coffee were amazing! Cute little yard and deck with outdoor seating and picnic tables. Service was a little bit slow but it was very busy as expected on a Sunday morning. We ordered the breakfast sandwich and eggs Benedict which both came on the best English muffins we’ve ever had - so fluffy and soft with a crisp outside. We also got an order of French toast which was a sort of croissant bread and topped w strawberries. Everything was warm and great!

Relaxing place with delish wholesome food. Stopped here for lunch and my warm kale salad and chai latte both were great. Large portion for the salad. Tranquil yard made it feel like you were eating at a friend's house. Nice service.

I’ve only been in Paonia for a couple of days and have come twice because it is so amazing! Warm kale salad (photo) was off the hook and eggs Benedict was also supremely deciduous. Super impressed, don’t miss out.

Came in for lunch while in town and was delightfully surprised at this cute little restaurant. Menu was unique, all the food we ordered was delicious and it overall had a great vibe! Will definitely come here again!

Every year in mid-October, I make my way up to Paonia. Sweet grass is on the list of go-to places in the area. The lattes are divine. I can also suggest the Sweet Hash and Eggs Benedict. The Stick Walnut Bun is also amazing if you want a sweeter dish. The atmosphere is cozy, and the staff are great people. There is wifi available.

Great little spot in Paonia for coffee and breakfast. They have multiple gluten free options for meals and pastries. The lattes were great. The sweet potato hash was delicious. The gluten free avocado toast was small and a bit hard but had good flavor. We enjoyed our seat outside in the morning and was able to have our pup with us. And many other pups were there as well.

Loved it! Went over for breakfast and had the insanely tasty Meat Muffin which is a bunch of eggs and meat and veggies in a giant muffin sized thing. We each got one but could have split one. Outdoor seating was dog friendly and lovely. Friendly staff. Highly recommended.

The AM sandwich with bacon was crave worthy and unique. As a big fan of Bacon egg and cheese sandwiches this one is highly memorable. Would travel here again just for the sandwich! The iced hibiscus mint tea was also delicious .
